HALIGI 9 Lecture Series: “Heritage-Led Regeneration.”

The HALIGI 9 Lecture Series held on September 17, 2025, at Aliw Theater featured a powerful session on “Heritage-Led Regeneration.” Among the distinguished speakers was Ar. Gerard Lico, FUAP, a UAP Diliman member, professor, author, and heritage conservation architect known for his extensive work on iconic structures such as the Manila Metropolitan Theater and Rizal Memorial Coliseum.

In his lecture, Ar. Lico emphasized that every old building tells a story that shapes the way it should be preserved. He highlighted that architects have a moral duty to ensure that heritage conservation prioritizes community well-being and cultural identity. His talk underscored the intersection of architecture, memory, and urban regeneration, inspiring future architects to see heritage as a living framework for sustainable development.

The lecture concluded with a panel discussion featuring Dr. Carlo Santoro, PhD, alongside Ar. Lico, moderated by Ar. Francis de los Reyes. The open forum allowed participants to exchange ideas, ask questions, and reflect on the evolving role of architects as stewards of cultural heritage.

The event also acknowledged Jed Yabut Furniture & Design for supporting the program through curated furniture that enhanced the lecture’s ambience and comfort. The HALIGI 9 Lecture Series reinforced the importance of heritage architecture in shaping both professional integrity and national identity—values deeply aligned with UAP’s thrusts of Justice to the Profession and Visionary Initiatives.
