Arkitek-bo officially commenced on August 15, 2026, at the University of the Philippines Campus, bringing together architects, professionals, and students for an evening dedicated to wellness, fellowship, and taking the first step toward fitness. The event opened with a brief introduction from UAPD Past President Ar. Nap Ibañez, Jr., the pioneer of Arkitek-bo, who shared how the initiative began during his term when a small group of architects, together with their families, relatives, and even their pets, would jog around the UP Academic Oval to promote health, wellness, and camaraderie among colleagues.
What started as a simple gathering eventually grew into an initiative that encourages the architecture community to make fitness and movement part of their lifestyle. More than just a run, Arkitek-bo has become a space where members can care for their well-being while strengthening fellowship within the organization. After the opening remarks, Ar. Gleo Raymundo led the participants through warm-up stretches and relays, setting an energetic and encouraging tone before the evening activity began.
The blueprint of Arkitek-bo is simple: to encourage participants to take their first step toward fitness through walking or jogging, without pressure on distance, pace, or performance.
The run was led by Ar. Rhame Advincula, who guided the group with a 2-minute run and 2-minute brisk-walking interval. With steady pacing and encouragement from one another, the participants completed two laps around the UP Academic Oval, covering approximately 5 kilometers. Along the route, Ar. Abet Lagula and Chapter President Ar. Rafael Reyes shared trivia about the architectural landmarks surrounding the oval, adding an educational and distinctly architectural touch to the run.
Many participants were beginners, first-timers, or individuals just beginning to reconnect with fitness, while others had already been exercising regularly. Regardless of experience level, everyone moved at a pace that allowed them to participate, encourage one another, and enjoy the activity together. As the run came to a close, Ar. Gleo and Ar. Rhame congratulated everyone not only for completing the activity, but also for choosing to show up. Arkitek-bo serves as a reminder that wellness does not always begin with speed, distance, or endurance. Sometimes, it begins with the simple decision to start.
